Why doesn’t my paint match?
Color matching is part formula, part surface and part visual evaluation. Start with the information you have, then compare the actual surface or sample whenever possible.
The formula can be right while the surface still reads differently.
A paint code or formula is an important starting point, but several factors can affect what the human eye ultimately sees. At D&S in Pueblo, Eric’s practical color-matching approach combines the formula with the actual vehicle, a physical sample or spray-out, and an experienced visual comparison. Bring the year, make, model, code if known, VIN information and a removable component when practical; no screen-only comparison can guarantee an invisible match.

What can shift an automotive match?
- Factory or OEM code
- Color variants and manufacturing differences
- Vehicle age, UV exposure and oxidation
- Previous repairs and surrounding color
- Metallic orientation, pearls and tri-coats
- Application technique, film thickness and ground coat
- Clear coat and the light where you compare
- Spray-out cards and blending decisions
What to bring
Year, make, model, paint code if known, VIN information where useful, photos, and a removable component or sample when appropriate.
Look at the color in more than one light and direction.
Metallic orientation, sheen, texture and gloss can change the way color is perceived. For product-specific application and blending guidance, refer to the current manufacturer technical data sheet.
Bring the project to the counter.
A photo, a sample and the information you have are enough to start a useful conversation. D&S serves Pueblo from 715 West Street, Pueblo, CO 81003.
